family

• Relax. Very few things really matter and no one gets out alive anyway.
• Concentrate on what matters. Are you happy?
• You only have room for so many people in your life. Choose wisely, and don't be afraid to fire someone.
• You reap what you sow. This is true in every fucking way imaginable
• You don't have to tolerate bullshit, but....
• Pick your battles wisely.
• Learn how to listen to your intuition.
• You'll go crazy worrying about all the things that could go wrong. Inevitably, some of them will and you should be prepared, but most of the time things go surprisingly well. Be prepared for success as well as failure.
• Be forgiving and allow yourself to be forgiven.
• Don't lend money to your family and expect to get it all back

education

• everyone you meet has something they can teach you
• study history, you don't know where you're going unless you know where you came from
• education is taken for granted
• most college degrees are completely worthless and at best help you get job interviews
• you'll learn 99% of everything in your career path on the job, not in school

health

• stay in shape, even if that means going for a walk every day
• eat healthy, mostly green vegetables, exercise regularly, and sleep regularly, and you'll generally feel great
• taking care of other people is awesome, but if you are not taking care of yourself, you cannot effectively help other people
• floss, it's just as important as brushing your teeth, if not more so

money

• if you have to finance a new car, you should probably be buying a used one
• kids are fucking expensive
• computer games are still awesome and a good bang for your buck
• most of the financial advice on the news is bullshit
• nobody is keeping count of how often you fuck up your finances

career

• I still haven't a clue what I want to be when I grow up, most people don't
• fortune favors the bold
• keep all of life's inboxes cleaned out: physical, email, monetary, caloric, social, chores, etc. Don't let things stack up
• a job is just that, don't let it be your life
• don't start a business with family or friends

relationships

• the one who loves the least controls the relationship
• don't take your girlfriend with you to college.
• sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. the race is long, and in the end, its only with yourself.
• love is great, but having a partner doesn't solve all your problems, and introduces a whole set of new ones

happiness

• time does in fact heal all wounds
• its ok to be alone
• if you want something bad enough stop making excuses and just do it, time is short, and it seems to speed up exponentially the older you get
• travelling the world should be mandatory
• lying depresses the spirit. do it as infrequently as possible
